An 11-yr-old neutered DSH with bilaterally symmetric alopecia of the pinnae, face, ventral neck, abdomen and back had easily depilated hair and scaly, scabby, pruritic skin The cat was inactive and slept near a heat register. Differential diagnoses included atopy, military dermatitis, endocrine alopecia, neurodermatitis and ringworm. Fungal culture (Fungassay:Pitman-Moore) was positive, and 3 lime-sulfur dips were given at intervals of 7-10 days. Pruritus responded to 20 mg methylprednisolone acetate (Depo-Medrol: Upjohn), and new hair growth became evident.
