Clinical study in 8 normal cats and 8 hyperthyroid cats.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN. Prednisone at 10 mg/cat IM was given to normal and hyperthyroid cats and T4 levels determined prior to and 24 hours postinjection.

Methylprednisolone acetate [Depo-Medrol] at 20 mg/cat SC was given to normal cats and T4 determinations made at 1 and 2 weeks postinjection.

RESULTS. A significant decrease in T4 levels occurred 24 hours post prednisone in the normal cats but not in the hyperthyroid cats. T4 levels were not significantly different than baseline levels at 1 and 2 weeks post methylprednisolone.
