Furmota is a 9 year old neutered male DSH cat with a recent diagnosis of hyperthyroidism. Furmota’s clinical signs included weight loss along with a decreased appetite and depression. Physical exam findings included depressed mentation, bilaterally dilated pupils, decreased pupillary reflexes and menace, normal retinal exam and bilateral palpable thyroid enlargement. Thyroid scintigraphy confirmed a bilateral symmetric enlargement of both thyroid lobes typical for adenomatous hyperplasia. A focal area of increased intracranial radionuclide uptake consistent with intracranial neoplasia was noted on the thyroid scan as well. A brain MRI was performed which confirmed a large extra axial mass along the ventral floor of the intracranial cavity centered over the pituitary fossa consistent with a pituitary macroadenoma or meningioma.
