Chester is a 10 year old male Pug with a medical history of seizures controlled with phenobarbital. Chester was accidentally dropped approximately 4 feet onto a hard floor by his owner approximately 2 years ago. At the time of his injury, Chester had an acute onset of hind limb paresis which responded to symptomatic medical therapy. Progressive hind limb paresis prompted repeat spinal radiographs which demonstrated progressive narrowing of the T13-L1 intervertebral disc space, with marked spondylosis and mild subluxation. An MRI was performed which identified a severe disc extrusion at T13-L1. Increased signal intensity on T2 weighted images was noted within the caudal T13 and cranial L1 vertebral bodies. Differentials for this finding include edema or hemorrhage suggesting ongoing instability of the T13-L1 joint. Chester had a brain MR (results of which were normal) immediately following his spinal study time to further evaluate his seizure disorder. |
